Dr. Imoigele “Imo” P. Aisiku, MD is a renowned emergency medicine physician, critical care specialist, and healthcare innovator with a career spanning over two decades. He currently serves as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook University’s Renaissance School of Medicine and is a member of the AbundaBox Advisory Board, where he contributes his expertise in healthcare innovation. Dr. Aisiku is widely recognized as a pioneer in integrating critical care and neurocritical care within emergency medicine, and he has leveraged this expertise to improve patient outcomes through innovative telemedicine programs and leadership roles at top medical institutions.

Current Roles and Leadership

In his current capacity, Dr. Aisiku holds several high-impact positions. He is the Chair of Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook Medicine, leading emergency care across the Stony Brook University hospital system. He also co-leads VSee Health as Co-Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, guiding a telehealth technology company that delivers virtual healthcare solutions. In addition, Dr. Aisiku serves on the Advisory Board of AbundaBox, providing strategic guidance drawn from his extensive background in clinical medicine and healthcare innovation.

Previous Experience and Positions

Prior to his current roles, Dr. Aisiku spent over a decade at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). There he served as Chief of the Division of Emergency Critical Care and Director of the combined Emergency Medicine–Critical Care fellowship program. He also founded the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice (IDEaS) in the Department of Emergency Medicine at BWH, reflecting his commitment to advancing diversity in healthcare . For his leadership in this area, he was honored as the hospital’s inaugural Distinguished Chair in Health Equity and Diversity .

Earlier in his career, Dr. Aisiku held academic appointments at Virginia Commonwealth University and at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UT Houston). At UT Houston, he rose to become Vice Chair for Critical Care in the Department of Neurosurgery and served as Medical Director of the Neurosurgery ICU, where he helped establish one of the nation’s first mobile stroke unit programs . Notably, he was part of the critical care team that treated U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords in 2011 after she sustained a severe gunshot brain injury, highlighting his expertise in neurotrauma and emergency neurocritical care.

Medical Expertise and Innovation

Dr. Aisiku’s medical expertise spans the continuum of emergency and critical care. He is one of the few physicians triple board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Neurocritical Care , enabling him to bridge the gap between the emergency department and intensive care unit for critically ill patients. He completed an Emergency Medicine residency and a Critical Care fellowship at Emory University, followed by a specialized Neurocritical Care fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis . This advanced training, combined with his hands-on experience, gives Dr. Aisiku unique insight into acute neurologic emergencies and complex critical care. For example, during his tenure in Houston he was instrumental in deploying early mobile stroke units to deliver rapid stroke treatment in the field , an innovation that can dramatically improve patient outcomes in cerebrovascular emergencies.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Aisiku is a leader in healthcare innovation, particularly in the realm of telemedicine and health technology. Over 15 years ago, he founded iDoc Telehealth Solutions, a telemedicine company focusing on e-ICU critical care, telestroke, and tele-neurocritical care services . He also co-founded TiTAN EHR, an electronic health records platform designed to support telemedicine initiatives . Through these ventures, and as Co-CEO of VSee Health, Dr. Aisiku has expanded access to specialty care by bringing critical care expertise to underserved areas via virtual care . His forward-thinking approach to digital health and system integration exemplifies his commitment to improving healthcare delivery through innovation.

Education and Credentials

Dr. Aisiku’s educational background is as comprehensive as his career. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Massachusetts Medical School . He then completed his postgraduate medical training with an Emergency Medicine residency and a Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta , followed by a Neurocritical Care fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis . In addition to his medical training, Dr. Aisiku obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health and a Master of Business Administration from Emory’s Goizueta Business School . He is also board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, and Neurocritical Care , reflecting his multi-disciplinary expertise. Notably, Dr. Aisiku holds a commission as a Colonel in the Army National Guard, underscoring his leadership and service beyond the civilian healthcare sector .
